How the long weekend is spent
- 1 November is All Saints' Day and 2 November the Day of the Dead. People traditionally visit cemeteries and bring flowers, mostly chrysanthemums, to relatives who have died.
- These days people eat huesos de santo (marzipan rolls) and buñuelos de viento (light fritters), sweets typical of the date.
- In Asturias, in autumn, the amagüestu brings family and friends together around roasted chestnuts and sweet cider.
- Many theaters stage “Don Juan Tenorio” by José Zorrilla around this time.
